Ali Tahir is a well-known lawyer from Karachi, who holds the rights of audience in the High Courts of Pakistan, but whose primary practice is situated at the Sindh High Court at Karachi, whereas he regularly appears before the different courts in Sindh under his own name, and as the OF CHAMBERS AT BARRISTER ALI TAHIR AND CO., dealing in Constitutional, Administrative, Services and Property matters with a transnational practice. He also regularly appears in cases relating to Narcotics and Taxation. He is currently serving as the Legal Advisor to two federal agencies, being the Pakistan Coast Guards and the Federal Board of Revenue and as a Special Prosecutor for the Anti-Narcotics Force. At the same time, he serves as a legal advisor to a number of reputed organizations, such as MAPS and Make a Wish Foundation, Pakistan.
He graduated in law from the University of London, was called to the Bar of England and Wales by Lincolns Inn and completed his LLM in Accountability Laws from the University of the West of England.
He has previously served as the Director of the Centre for Law and Access to Justice at Ziauddin University as well as continues to serve as Visiting Faculty in the top law institutions of Pakistan, including currently teaching at the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University of Law and Themis School of Law. He has experience of over ten years working with renowned law firms engaged primarily in civil and constitutional matters as well as criminal matters related to narcotics, customs, anti-corruption and white-collar crimes.
Ali Tahir has commendable knowledge of Constitutional Law, Public International Law and Media Laws, and is well versed with matters pertaining to current, domestic and international affairs. He is articulate in his thoughts because of which he has been invited to speak as a guest speaker on national and international forums as well as on different talk shows. Most prominently, Ali Tahir routinely delivers lectures Constitutional and International law to different bar associations in the country, and has been a part of the annual Karachi Bar Association trial advocacy program as a lecturer since 2017. He has been invited to many conferences as a speaker on comparative constitutional law and international law ranging from the SAARC law conference at the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in 2017 to Youth for Human Rights conference at the United Nations, New York in 2018 and 2019, to the Youth Professional Fellowship in Turkey in 2020 to the Global Peace Summit Turkey and Youth Professional Training Program New York in 2021.
Ali Tahir has extensive experience in writing on politics, law and constitutional matters as well as current and international affairs with several of his articles and columns having been published in leading English newspapers of Pakistan, as well as around the world. He has also written a book on the American Constitution titled ‘The Key to the American Constitution’, suited to a comparative study of the American constitution with the Pakistani legal perspective.
